California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress

Each spring, students in Irvine Unified School District (IUSD) participate in the California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP). IUSD sees these assessments as an academic checkup. The way a student's class assignments and report cards are an indicator of student learning, so is this yearly assessment — and they serve to provide parents and teachers with information about student progress toward college and career readiness.

New California state standards are challenging students to understand subjects more deeply, think more critically, and apply their learning to the real world. To measure these new state standards, Smarter Balanced tests (SBAC) are new, high-quality assessments in English and math for grades 3-8 and high school. These SBAC assessments provide more accurate and meaningful information about what students are learning by adapting to each student's ability, giving teachers and parents better information to help students succeed in school and after.
